The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to conduct the Class 10 and 12 board examinations starting from February 15, 2025. Approximately 4.4 million students are expected to participate in these exams, covering 204 subjects. In preparation for the exams, CBSE has issued guidelines to inform students about permitted and prohibited items within the examination hall. This measure aims to maintain a fair and transparent examination process.
The board emphasizes the importance of adhering to examination ethics, which are crucial for a smooth and unbiased academic evaluation. To ensure this, CBSE has provided detailed ‘Unfair Means Rules’ that students, teachers, and parents must follow. Schools are responsible for briefing students about these rules, associated penalties, and instructions before the start of the exams. It’s also important that students not believe or spread rumors that could disrupt the smooth conduct of the examinations.
Parents also need to be informed about examination ethics and penalties, while students need to be reminded on the day of the examination about the prohibited items. Officials deployed for examination duties are also briefed about their specific roles.
Permitted Items for CBSE Exams
Students are allowed to bring certain essential items to the examination center. These items include:
- Admit card and school identity card (for regular students).
- Admit card and any government-issued photo identification proof (for private students).
- Stationery items: transparent pouch, geometry/pencil box, blue/royal blue ink, ballpoint/gel pen, scale, writing pad, eraser.
- Analog watch, transparent water bottle.
- Metro card, bus pass, money.
Prohibited Items for CBSE Exams
To maintain the integrity of the examination, several items are strictly prohibited from being brought into the examination hall. These include:
- Stationery items such as textual material (printed or written), bits of paper, calculators (except for students with learning disabilities like Dyscalculia, who will be provided calculators by the exam center), pen drives, log tables (provided by exam centers), and electronic pens/scanners.
- Communication devices including mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, earphones, microphones, pagers, health bands, smartwatches, cameras.
- Other items such as wallets, goggles, handbags, pouches.
- Eatable items, whether opened or packed, except for diabetic students.
- Any other item that could be used for unfair means.
Any student found possessing or using prohibited items will be considered to be using ‘Unfair Means’ and will face penalties according to CBSE rules. The use or attempted use of any electronic device, which can be used as a communication device, after entering the examination center, will result in serious action.
Penalties for Unfair Means
Students found indulging in unfair practices or spreading rumors that disrupt the smooth conduct of the exams will face severe consequences. This includes cancellation of the current year’s examination and the next year’s examination in all subjects. Such students will be eligible to write/have/take the examination in full subjects only after that.
Additional Important Points
It’s important to note that students will be subjected to extensive and compulsory physical frisking before entering the examination center. This is a crucial step to ensure that no unauthorized items are carried inside the hall.
The CBSE’s guidelines are aimed at ensuring a fair and transparent examination process for all students. All stakeholders, including students, parents, and school authorities, must adhere to these guidelines and rules to ensure the smooth conduct of the Class 10 and 12 board examinations.
