JEE Main 2025 Session 1 Day 1 Exam Overview

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main Session 1 for 2025 was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) across various centers. The exam was administered online in two shifts. The overall difficulty level of the paper was reported to be ranging from easy to moderate.

Exam Structure

The JEE Main question paper for each subject was divided into two sections. Section 1 consisted of 20 multiple-choice questions with a single correct answer. Section 2 contained 5 numerical-based questions. Unlike previous years, there were no optional questions in section 2 this year. The examination covered three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Subject-wise Analysis

Chemistry

The Chemistry section was reported to be balanced, with questions from Physical, Organic, and Inorganic chemistry. A significant portion of the questions were aligned with the NCERT syllabus. There were no questions from the deleted NCERT topics. According to the Allen Career Institute, approximately 30% of questions were from inorganic chemistry, and 35% each from organic and physical chemistry. Statement and matching questions were also included in this section.

Physics

The Physics section included questions that combined concepts. One such question covered the potentiometer, which was from the deleted syllabus, and another combined unit dimensions and magnetism. Vidyamandir Classes suggested that students with a good grasp of basic concepts and formulas could potentially score 60% in this section. Allen Career Institute noted the presence of single questions from Units, Vectors, Kinematics, and multiple questions from Rotational Dynamics, Electrostatics, and Current Electricity.

Mathematics

The Mathematics section was considered lengthy and of medium difficulty. The questions included 3-4 questions from vectors and 3D geometry, and 6-7 from calculus. Vidyamandir Classes found the paper’s structure similar to previous years. Allen Career Institute reported that 35% of questions were from Calculus, and 9% were from Statistics. The calculations required in this section were lengthy. Many students found it to be particularly challenging and time-consuming, with many unable to attempt all questions. Some students found questions from differential equations, vectors, and integral calculus tricky.

Student Feedback

Students generally found the overall paper to be of moderate difficulty, but many pointed out the mathematics section as being particularly challenging. Some students reported that the physics section included many questions from modern physics, and chemistry questions were mostly from atomic structure and inorganic sections. Some aspirants were able to attempt all questions, expressing hopes for a good score. Many candidates are now awaiting the cut-off marks.

Cut-offs and Previous Trends

Last year, the overall difficulty of the exam was moderate to difficult. The cut-offs for JEE Advanced for general, SC, ST, and OBC categories experienced an increase. There was also an increase in the number of 100 percentilers.

Impact of the Exam on Students

The JEE Main exam appears to have been a test of not only knowledge but also time management skills, particularly with the mathematics section posing a significant challenge for many candidates.
