Based on Lee Child’s Novels

The Reacher series adapts Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels. Season 1 was based on Killing Floor (1997), Child’s first Reacher novel, and Season 2 adapted Bad Luck and Trouble (2007), the 11th book in the series. Season 3 is based on Persuader, the seventh Reacher novel, released in 2003.

Plot of Season 3

In Season 3, Reacher works undercover for the DEA to rescue an informant from a criminal enterprise. The official summary states that Reacher “hurtles into the dark heart of a vast criminal enterprise when trying to rescue an undercover DEA informant whose time is running out. There he finds a world of secrecy and violence—and confronts some unfinished business from his own past.”

  • Sonya Cassidy as Susan Duffy, a DEA agent.
  • Robert Monteinos as Guillermo Villanueva, a DEA agent.
  • Daniel David Stewart as Steven Elliot, a DEA agent.

Review of Season 3

Season 3 delivers the action and thrills expected from Reacher. Alan Ritchson embodies the character well, bringing both humor and physicality to the role. The season follows Reacher as he goes undercover for the DEA while also dealing with a past adversary. While the plot follows a familiar investigative pattern, the core elements of the show remain engaging.

New additions to Reacher’s team include DEA agents Susan Duffy, Guillermo Villanueva, and Steven Elliot. While the camaraderie is functional, the new faces do not leave as strong of an impression as Finlay and Conklin from Season 1. Maria Sten returns as Frances Neagley, and Mariah Robinson appears in a crucial flashback episode.

The season offers predictable execution, with few moments of inspiration. The fight between Reacher and Olivier Richters’ character, Paulie, is a highlight.
